Chairman Wyden Adds New WOTC Target Group To EXPIRE Bill

Chairman Wyden has added a new target group to WOTC in the bill to be marked up today—workers who exhaust their unemployment benefits under Federal or State law.

We have been urging the long-term unemployed be made a target group, and the Wyden provision encompasses most of them.

The bill that will be voted on by the Finance Committee today will contain this modification, so if the bill is approved by Finance the new target group will be in the measure the Senate will vote on.

Chairman Wyden also clarifies that WOTC shall apply to Empowerment Zones in effect as of December 31st, 2013, but no new zones will be designated after that date.

The list of amendments to the EXPIRE bill to be considered by Finance Committee today is available at their web site, www.finance.senate.gov , click on “Hearings” and then on “Open Executive Session on EXPIRE.”

Congratulations to everyone who worked to get the long-term unemployed made a WOTC target group!
